Thun is a charming and picturesque old City located at the beautiful Lake Thun. The city of Thun is the gateway to the Bernese Oberland and an ideal starting point for excursions to the nearby snow-capped mountains of the Alps. The impressive castle and historic old town, bathing beaches, promenades and the views of the Alps provide a gorgeous ambiance. The historic street of Thun includes many attractive shops and restaurants.

Thun is an ideal starting point for excursions to many famous holiday resorts, such as Interlaken, Grindelwald, Mürren, Gstaad, Adelboden and Lenk. Day trips, for example to the world-famous Jungfraujoch, are possible too, or you can go to the local Niesen Mountain and enjoy a spectacular view (our special excursion on Tuesday evening; see below).

The BioMedical Transporters Conference will take place in the Seepark Hotel, just adjacent to the Schadau Castle (Schloss Schadau). You can walk from Thun along the shores of the River Aare to the Schadau Park and from there to the Castle. The Schloss Schadau is Thun's second castle and it was built in the style of the French Loire Castles. It includes a restaurant where we will have the special farewell dinner on Thursday evening.

A cable-pulled mountain train takes you to the peak of Mount Niesen. This peak is 2336 meters high and it is surrounded by almost vertical slopes down. The excursion includes bus transportation, cable-pulled mountain train ride and dinner on top of the mountain at the Berghaus Niesen Kulm. Deep down below you'll have a marvelous views of the Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and the famous snow-capped mountains, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Enjoy the spectacular views and don't miss the sunset at 8:53 pm!

Schloss Schadau is located just adjacent to the Seepark Hotel at the beautiful Lake Thun. From there you'll have beautiful views of the Lake Thun and the Swiss Alps. This castle includes the gourmet Arts Restaurant where we will have dinner, as well as the Swiss Gastronomy Museum. The castle was built in 1852 and has elements of the Romanesque and Neogothic styles. Enjoy the beautiful relaxing environment of this castle, the magnificent views as well as the gourmet cuisine of the Arts Restaurant.

The quay along the inner Aare River and the shore of Lake Thun, almost two kilometers long, entices countless promenaders, bicycle riders and inline skaters, especially on sunny days. The Aare quay appeals to all who enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama and being close to the water or want to feed the swans.

A number of historic buildings have been uniformly posted, numbered and defined as the "Historic Walk" in Thun. In addition, there is a map for strolling along this Historic Walk - Time: about 1.5 hours. The Historic Walk will bring you closer to the landmarks that mark the path through history our ancient city has taken.
